lyrics

open up my eyes, and all I see
scorching light, blinding me
sand searing my flesh
course and rough
pounding head, dusted mouth
lost in barren lands, no memory
of where or how I came to be
marooned with no sight of society
no living thing, a mystery

hellish sun from the desert sky
beats down my broken shell
parched and dry in the dunes I lie
the last tale I shall tell

willpower to stand comes over me
to gaze upon where I may be
heat waves in the air distort the light
illusions form where falls my sight
feel my strength draw low
collapse once more
burning ground dull, ignored
no one will know how I met my end
all trace erased by wind and sand

hellish sun from the desert sky
beats down this empty land
Dead and dried in the dunes I lie
just one more low soul damned

“death arrives among all that sound
like a shoe with no foot in it
like a suit with no man in it, comes and knocks using a ring with no stone in it,
with no finger in it, comes and shouts
with no mouth, with no tongue, with no throat
nevertheless its steps can be heard
and its clothing makes a hushed sound”
– Pablo Neruda
